Research and Development Capabilities

The Research and Development capability is geared largely towards the development of generic bulk APIs. All current export products were developed via this facility.

Standard equipment includes:

1. Hewlett Packard high pressure liquid chromatography systems.
2. Hewlett Packard gas chromatography systems.
3. Perkin Elmer Differential Scanning Calorimeter STARe system
4. Leica Microscope with camera and software for particle size analysis.
5. An Agilent LC/MS system.
6. Extensive on and off site literature resource library facilities

The laboratory is staffed by chemists comprising PhD's, M.Sc's, B.Sc(Hons), B.Sc, National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and laboratory assistants. A comprehensive approach to training contributes to the maintenance of a high standard of all round technical excellence.

External analytical support through local universities includes ES-MS, 600MHz NMR, X-ray diffraction studies (both single crystal and powder) and sophisticated thermal analysis techniques. There is also ready access to high-resolution proton and carbon-13 spectrometry facilities that are capable of state-of-the-art correlation spectroscopy such as COSY and HETCOR. HPLC-MS capabilities are also available at the local universities.

In addition, collaborative arrangements are in place with both local and international contract research organisations and with groups who have expertise in chiral separations, chiral synthesis and catalysis.

Pilot laboratory and pilot plant facilities exist on site to enable scale up and efficient technology transfer to full-scale production.
